Dogs in Film
Toto is a canine character born in L. Frank Baum’s children’s books and brought to life in the classic film adaptation by a Cairn Terrier named Terry. Terry starred along side Judy Garland and went on to become the most famous dog in film history, appearing in 17 films and sometimes earning more money than her human counterparts. A memorial for Terry, whose name was changed officially to Toto after the film’s release, stands at the Hollywood Forever Cemetery in Los Angeles. “The Wizard of Oz” was nominated for six Oscars, winning for Best Original Song, “Over the Rainbow.” Directed by Victor Fleming.
